SunScout is built on a simple principle: your data stays yours. The app has no accounts, no ads, no third-party analytics, and no tracking. We do not collect, store, or sell any personal information.
If you tap the locate button, SunScout asks for your device's position once to center the 3D terrain and sky data on where you are standing. This happens only while you use the app (no background tracking), the position is processed entirely on your device, and it is never transmitted to us, stored, or shared. You can also explore any location in the world by search or map picker without granting location access at all.
The AR finder uses your device's motion sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer) to work out which way you are pointing, so it can overlay the sun, moon, stars and terrain horizon on the live view. This orientation is computed entirely on your device in the moment; it is never recorded, transmitted, or shared, and SunScout does not use the "Motion & Fitness" data that requires a permission prompt. The AR finder also works without any sensors — you can aim it manually with the on-screen controls.
To render terrain, satellite imagery, and live weather for the place you are scouting, the app sends the coordinates you are looking at to the following third-party services (the space-weather feed below is the one exception — it is global and needs no location):
These requests are standard for any mapping or weather app. The providers may log the request (including your IP address) according to their own privacy policies. No account or personal identifier is attached to these requests. We recommend reviewing each provider's policy if you have concerns.
SunScout Pro is an optional one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details. Apple's privacy policy governs those transactions. Purchase entitlement is verified on your device.
Your saved spots, session preferences, and exported files are stored locally on your device. They are never uploaded anywhere. Deleting the app removes this data.
SunScout does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.
